The Tesla Center is situated near a small village called Smiljan, providing a serene setting for exploring the life and work of Nikola Tesla. Within the facility, visitors can find Tesla's birthplace and a modest church where his father once officiated, offering historical context. A small playground is available for young visitors, enhancing the site’s family-friendly appeal.

A notable feature of the center is a stream where Tesla's turbine operates, illustrating his innovative approach to fluid dynamics. Adjacent to this is a test station housing a replica of his transformer, used in pioneering wireless energy transfer experiments.

Today, Tesla's former residence functions as a museum exhibiting replicas of some of his most significant patents. Notable among these are models like a metallic egg that spins within a magnetic field, alongside numerous other prototypes that highlight his inventive prowess.

Among Tesla's numerous contributions to electrical engineering, his development of alternating current (AC) stands out. Tesla championed AC as the standard for electricity transmission, in contrast to Thomas Edison's promotion of direct current (DC). This rivalry, known as ‘The War of the Currents’, ultimately favored Tesla’s AC system due to its superior efficiency and practicality in long-distance power transmission. Consequently, today all electromagnetic devices operate primarily using AC power.

In particular, Tesla's invention of the asynchronous motor involved the creation of a reverse magnetic field. This was achieved through three-phase currents offset by 120°, which generate an alternating magnetic field that effectively drives the rotor—an innovative approach that underpins many modern electric motors.
